Medicaid doesn't usually cover everyday baby diapers. It may cover incontinence supplies when they are medically necessary, often for older children and parents. For routine needs, diaper banks are usually the best free option.
Medically necessary supplies
If a child over toilet-training age or an older person has a medical condition causing incontinence, a doctor can order supplies. Rules vary by state, and children may be covered under EPSDT. The order usually goes to a medical supply company.

Does SNAP or WIC cover diapers?
No. SNAP and WIC don't pay for diapers. WIC does help with baby food and formula, as covered in free food with Medicaid. See also free baby items. Pregnant? Check your eligibility.
How to get a diaper prescription approved
For medically necessary supplies, ask your doctor to record the diagnosis, the type and the quantity needed. Your plan may require a specific supplier and prior approval. Keep copies of what you submit. If you're denied, EPSDT rules can be important for children, so ask about an appeal.
